Where did the counting sheep idea come from?

What I do to fall sleep when I can't sleep is this: I close my eyes and try to relax my body, then I start breathing deeply and slowly and at the same time I start imaging the sea or some calm place. If you play soft music, like Enya or some of those mood songs while doing this is better. The point is to have your tension go away by relaxing your body and your mind and you wouldn't even realize when you fell asleep.  Try that and good luck.
