  1. I would imagine it's used because the Queen has a distinctive 'posh' accent and pronounciates her words clearly. As do most Royals.


  2. It comes from the assumption that the reigning monarch (King or Queen) is supposed to set the standard for how the language is used and pronounced. Of course, the various Hanoverian monarchs (Victoria included) usually took a more German than English approach to pronunciation.
