  1. People came from all over Ireland to emigrate to US. The boats left from Cobh (pronounced cove) in County Cork in the south but people came from all over as I have said.  Ellis Island was the immigration portal.

  2. They went to New York, Boston and Baltimore

Before Ellis Island immigrants were processed directly at the docks / Ship landing points

Ellis Island introduced a quarantine station and immigration control

Irish also went to Australia, Canada, Argentina and South Africa

Shipping Lists giving the name of the ships immigrants sailed on plus the port of departure + arrival are available for searching at many libraries and genealogical centers

Ports in Ireland where irish emigrated from include Waterford, Limerick, Galway, Derry, Belfast, Dublin, Wexford, Cork, Cobh

  3. All over Ireland.

  4. from all over but particularly from the counties on the west coast which were always traditionally the poorest regions and were worst hit by the famine of the 1840s and the death that followed e.g donegal, sligo, mayo, roscommon, galway, clare, kerry, cork

  5. mostal large coastal towns on the west coast had coffin ships leaving from their ports.

Boston and Baltimore in the usa are named after Irish towns in clare and cork respectively

  6. The boats left from Derry, Donegal etc - from all over Ireland. The people left from all towns and districts.

  7. it was the west of ireland mostly places like mayo, letrim, galway, kerry etc. its in theese places that people were most reliant on spuds.
