Where did the major leagues teams get their names from?

does anyone know where the MLB teams (at least some) got their names?

Example- Why is Texas called the Rangers?

Just wondering if anyone can give me how some (or all if youve got the time and energy) of the teams got their names?

Dodgers - The original team in Brooklyn was named after a common but derisive term for Brooklyn natives, the "Trolley Dodgers" who had to look out for speeding trolleys when they crossed busy streets.

Angels - The original minor league team in Los Angeles took the name from the English meaning of Los Angeles, "City of Angels". When the new American League expansion team was added in LA in 1961, owner Gene Autry brought back the Pacific Coast League team's name. When the club was moved to Anaheim in 1966, he kept the name "Angels" but changed Los Angeles Angels to California Angels. When Disney bought the team, they too kept the Angels named, but changed it to Anaheim Angels. Eventually, Disney sold out to Arte Moreno, and he returned the name to Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim).

The NY Mets have a similar story. Back in the late 1800s, the first professional team in NY was named the Metropolitans, and when NY got a new NL expansion team in 1962, they resurrected the old team name, "Mets" for short.

well some come from history... like for example the 49ers...i know not MLB.. got there name from the gold rush in California

Many cases it was voted on by the fans. Some cases it's the owner's choice. Most of the time it has to do with things in the area be it history, geographic features, state bird, etc.

Rangers.. probably because back in the day, Texas' police system were called the Texas Rangers. Like Chuck Norris XD
