  1. I've never actually heard that phrase, but "wheelhouse" is another name for the helm of a ship or boat. It's where the steering wheel is.


  2. The wheelhouse, or the helm of a ship is a place of control and comfort for the Captain of the ship.  It is HIS place.  When a baseball pitch is "in his wheelhouse" as they say, it is in the batter's "area of comfort" and he is the captain of what is about to be a great hit.
