  2. It comes from an ancient belief that you can avoid rabies from a dog if you take in a glass, hair from the dog that is burnt

  3. I think it means a drink of whiskey when you wake up with a sick hang over.At least this is the way most people I know use this saying.

  5. Someone told me it was to do with the old beliefs in similies.   The aincient greek word for poison was the same as the word for cure.

  6. This normally refers to a hangover cure, in that you have either a shot of whiskey or brandy with a raw egg to feel better!
