Where did the phrase "on your mark, get set go" come from?

  1. when you are about to run a race, that's called a 3-command-start. on your marks tells you to get in your lane and spot. get set tells you to get in your starting position, and go obviously means to take off!

    Stand on the line ( mark)

    Get ready (set)

    Start (go)

    Usually however it is usually just on you mark then a gun is fired or some other beep or bell or whatever.
