you can look back in my questions for "Looking for someone..." (just posted) for more info on the person. The family was Swedish but it doesn't follow the -son and -dotter pattern that the rest has. Why did Hyg come into the family?

  1. I have Swede too and the surname is a place name.  Maybe Hyg is too.

My Norwegian ancestors did the son and daughter thing, until they came here and took the farm name.

When the Swedes started having surnames that weren't son or daughter, they sometimes took a place name (like mine-Sjoberg) and the military sometimes took a military-related name.

If you can find a Swedish site that can translate, maybe that will give you a clue.
