Clan Donald,  This is an alternative spelling to Mackerron (spoken phoenetically they sound very much alike).  The name dates back to the 12 century in SW Scotland.  This is from the Scottish Highlands and is from one of the oldest and largest Scottish Clans.  Odds are that this spelling was put together at a point of entry into the US, Canada or Australia.  Spelling was not standardized for surnames until well into the 1900's.
