Where did the term "parapsychology " come from?

Seems like they should have called it paranormalology.

  1. para is latin for with, out .  Psych/o is the combiing form of the word, meaning mental.  ology is a suffixing meaning, study of.  So, that would mean it's the stuff outside of human understanding.  I am leaning medical terminology as part of a class, and the prefix happened to be in the lit.


  2. Of course! the root word of it are "paranormal and psychology".

  3. The credit for coining the term parapsychology usually goes to Max Dessoir (who said it in German) back in 1889.

    J. B. Rhine adopted it for English use (1920-1930's).
