  1. The tooth fairy is a folk myth where a fairy gives a child a gift in exchange for a tooth that has come out. (Parents typically supply the gift in the form of money.) A child typically leaves the tooth under their pillow for the fairy to take while they sleep. The tooth fairy then adds the tooth to a special part of her all-white tooth castle in the sky. The myth in this form is practiced in the US, Ireland, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK.

At one time in Europe, there was a tradition to bury baby teeth that fell out.[3] Some academics hold that the Tooth Fairy evolved from the tooth mouse depicted in an 18th century French language fairy tale. In "La Bonne Petite Souris," a mouse changes into a fairy to help a good queen defeat an evil king by hiding under his pillow to torment him and knocking out all his teeth.

This combination of ancient international traditions has evolved into one that is distinct in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, and other Anglophonic cultures

  2. Tooth fairy comes from Nordic legend about one of the gnomie women trading silver coins for pretty teeth.

  3. Centuries ago in Europe, when a child's tooth fell out, they would bury it so that a witch could not find it. there was a supersition that a witch could gain power over a person using a piece of hair, a nail, a tooth, etc. eventually the practice evolved over time to hiding the tooth under a child's pillow and the parents would take it and hide it somewhere safer (which is why parents keep the teeth from their child) and eventually it evovled even more to where the parents would leave a reward or treat in place of the tooth. of course, the child wanted to know how this happened, and so the tooth fairy was invented
