Where did the tradition of shoving someones face in the cake begin?

I mean I remember being 5 and getting my face shoved in the birthday cake, and its always been that way, shoot they did it to me this year ( im 21 now lol), and we did it to my daughter lol, I just wonder where did we all get this from, cause i notice all my friends have had this done to them to and all from different cultures!

Haha, wtf?  Where are you from?  I've never seen or heard of this.  I wouldn't be passing this on to your family though, it seems rather...barbaric.
