Many years ago a bullock named nobby was lost and found in the area

I drove past it about a week after last Christmas - there are some "knobby" hills in the area too - it could be that.  You'd have to ask locally and you might get three different versions.

There are several theories as to how Nobby on the Darling Downs got its name. One is that it was the name of a racehorse, another that it was the name of the lead bullock of an early bullock team or that it derives from the nob of a hill. Take your pick. "

Banana, a locality in Queensland was named for a bullock called "Banana".  Near Canberra, Captains Flat was also a bull or bullock "Captain" that favoured the area.

In Brisbane, Blunder Road was named for an incident outside the Oxley Hotel where a 19th century bullock driver unhitched his team and went into the pub for a few beers.  When he came out, rather the worse for wear, he drove the team down a track some distance before he realised he had left the wagon behind.  The area is still called "The Blunder".
