  1. In New England 1700-1750 an influx poor German and Scots-Irish immigrants. Many were employed as laborers on farms and sea ports. Before this time mos people who arrived came with funds to begin farms and other businesses. Many of these businesses employed slavery but many jobs were left undone. Several employed indentured servitude. An indentured servant is a person who signs and is bound by indentures to work for another for a specified time especially in return for payment of travel expenses and maintenance. Thinking that when their time was over, they would live a wealthy rich life, many did not get what they came for. As a matter of fact, many indentured servants died during their years serving their master. People also often sold their children to come to the Americas as stated in document three from Gottlieb Mittelberger's, Journey to Pennsylvania (1754). In Riots occured in Philadelphia as poor people tear down the pillories and stocks and burn them. Life was never easy many stole to eat.

The first record of the word "Homeless" is from 1615.

  2. Home - the place where you live

Homeless - not having a place to live

Homellessness - the state of not having a place to live

When it was first used in the USA, I have no idea.
