Flash! CNN reports that Phoenix has found toxins in Martian soil. This is true!

Toxins on Mars

by Elaine Polin

Phoenix is not in a joking mood,

He found something not so good:

On Mars he has found toxic soil,

Could it have come from Terran oil?

If these toxins are indigenous

Will they once again live in us?

  1. Very nice poem.   Fun to read.

Martian soil has always been known to be toxic to humans, even if there were breathable air, which there isn't.  I guess I should go read the CNN article, lol.

  2. Some of the by-products of life are toxins, this may not be a bad thing at all, let me know if you need rubber gloves...I have a stash!

  3. This is Elaine, reporting from Mars.  Signing out for 'Martian News!'  After Earth, our bods can handle anything!  Now where did I put that filter!  A nice pen.  Especially liked the "indegenous/ us rhyme."

  4. Poem 1st: I liked the poem, it sparked my interest in current events; however it may be inaccurate in its content. See below!

Story 2nd:...concerning all information reported recently

The issue bubbled up when it was reported Friday that some interesting results from Phoenix's wet chemistry laboratory, part of the Microscopy, Electrochemistry and Conductivity Analyzer (MECA) suite of instruments, were mentioned in a White House briefing.

Not so, says Phoenix principal investigator Peter Smith, of the University of Arizona, who denied that any details of the MECA findings had been shared and called the reports "bogus and damaging information."

--------more, this concernig life on Mars------

When the writer of the Aviation Week story, Craig Covault, was contacted by SPACE.com, he attributed much of the confusion and media hubbub to other news outlets picking up his story and mistakenly reporting that his article said that NASA had discovered life on Mars.

"Note the [Aviation Week] story said very, very clearly three times or so, NO life on Mars detected and Phoenix can NOT [detect life] in the first place," Covault wrote in an e-mail.

ME: I don't know if CNN jumped the gun or NASA is holding back until an official statement is made... I think we should see how this all plays out... if it's true it could be we are on Earth because we destroyed Mars climate... been there done that... doing it again... kind of thing... wouldn't that be a sad thing?

  5. I have not seen the news. Are we talking heavy metals?

  6. Terran oil...I swear, I did nothing! No, these toxins will not live again in us. We will fight them tooth and nail. After all, we open ourselves to disease, we encourage it. If we can keep ourselves distanced, so will it. Thanks for the Martian update.

  7. Oh dear...I'm very worried now.

    Please keep us updated!

  8. One wonders how far we have spread our invasive ways. Makes one question  if indeed, there was intelligent life there (I guess ours could qualify) and we left because of the toxins.

How far I wonder could they travel?

    Phoenix must be worried.

  9. "Hi!",

very nice. I didn't know that. I haven't been watching the news. It's depressing and you never see anything good. But now I am going searching. keep sending me news updates of mars.

    WELL DONE!

    Cheers : )

  10. We could have brought the "toxin" with us. "The toxic chemical is known as perchlorate, and is often used in solid rocket fuel."  Interesting - are we already polluting other planets? Or did the Martians use rockets?? ♥

  11. Excellent poem, this morning unknown! I love this! You did it good, you did it best...

Uh, perhaps the order of how life formed was slightly 'toxic' to begin with. After all, life survived too much carbon, methane, etc. And those comets helped spread the aminos...but, what condition were they in?

The Phoenix will always survive! I'll take ten thousand shares of Mars Drilling and Exploration!
