Where did they come up with the term "muffin fan" for those little box fans that are ubiquitous in computers _

and some other heat-generating electronics?

Yeah, I've looked it up in the Wikipedia and a dictionary, and neither explain the term (or I wouldn't have written this question here). It doesn't look to me anything like the shape of a muffin, so why this term?

  1. Tube Axial Fans- The most familiar air movers to most people

    often refered to by the trade name Muffin fans. They have

    square housings around a multiblade impeller.

    Muffin Fan, a trade name for compact fans used in electronic equipment. The name most probaly came about, due to it's small size compared to a Muffin.
