This idea came from an original announcement made by the office of Lord Mandelson, who is otherwise known as First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, Lord President of the Council. It started with the news that an extra Bank Holiday will be created in 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with Tuesday June 5th selected as the additional day off, to allow for a four-day period of celebration marking the monarch’s 60 years on the throne. The Derby would move on a one-off basis from its present weekend slot.
