Where did this " Knuckle Me" handshake come from?

Question

As a former Boxer, thats the way we shook hands in the ring, and personally I like it better than shaking hands from a hygenic stand point, but does anyone know how this thing got started?

I think the first time we did it was when we all gathered around the first woolly mammoth we killed.  Some of us hugged, some of us shook hands, some of us danced, and some of us knuckled each other  ^ ^
