  1. That is the downtown area, Italians call it "Centro". That is where you want to be. Defnitely. It is a big area, so walking across all of it may be a long haul. You may use a cab or a bus, or the metro, or take it a piece at a time

Rome is divided in "Quartieri", areas, same city though. There is nothing to mark the edge of them.

There are a lot of parts of the city with many fun places to go at night, restaurants, clubs, bars, dance places, theaters, you name it.

My personally-favourite area is called Trastevere, long walking distance from the Centro. I would definitely recommend it.

By the way, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, etc. etc....are all in the Centro.

Enjoy and don't go end of July - beginning August. Just too hot. And please say hi to my hometown, i'll see it in September :)

  2. use this search tool:

    http://en.reserver.it/hotels/Rome.php

you'll be able to find hotels (sorted by rates, availability,...) and see them placed on the map of Rome, togheter with monuments.

  3. Trastevere is the closest shot. There are always big crowds gathering there, you won't miss them :-)
