Hmmm...Egypt was a river civilization no? So...It developed agriculture, and...so I assumed since they had a social class structure, they kind of had a food surplus...What items are you talking about? Food? River/Fields. Sand? Everywhere :P

From the fertile land along the Nile. They are a modern culture, they import and export goods like anybody else.

I remember during the war in UK, it was impossible to buy onions except in season because, I was told, we had always imported our onions from Egypt.
