  1. also try the Sisters of Charity through the chaolic churches, You dont have to be catholic to get help from them.

  2. I am also on free/lunches medicade. I get my at the local "soup kitchen." If they don't have them, they will know where to get them. Good luck!

  3. I don't know about free stuff, and I know this may sound ridiculous at first, but have you tried buying some off of Ebay?  You'd be amazed at what you can buy there.  I am a teacher and Ebay was my "best friend" for a lot of things.  Heck, I once even saw a portable classroom being sold on it.

  4. Are you a homeschooler looking for curriculum, or a mom of kids in school looking from pencils, paper, and other things like that?  If you are looking for pencils, paper, and things like that, check with your local food bank, often they know where all the other charitable programs are.

If you are a homeschooler, you could still check with the food bank about the pencils and things, but you might also benefit from these sites:

  5. Try Freecycle. You can post what you need and people will donate it if they have it. Look online for a freecycle in your city. Also contact some of the churches in your area. Our church has a backpack drive every year where people fill and donate back packs to families in need.

    Best of luck to you!

  6. Where I live, I think you apply at the school they attend.  (Therefore, if you're homeschooling, this would not be available to you.)  But if they're going to school, I think the school makes a list of those who have applied, then they get the supplies from the distributor (like a tv station, or WalMart) and give them out to the kids who applied, either just before the first day or on the first day.

You may be able to get some of the supplies by just buying from WalMart -- right now they have notebooks for a nickel, crayola crayons box of 24 for a quarter, fair-sized box of pencils for a dollar.  That would get them started, so they could be just like everybody else on the first day.  Lots of kids won't have "everything" the first day.

  7. You should try the Salvation Army.  Usually they are the ones who sponsor the drop off points for school supplies
