I live in Indiana. Having worked in restaurants/bars over the last few years-I see all of the waste created and thrown out daily-it disgusts me! Then when I think about how many restaurants/bars there are in this country-most likely w/ the same wasteful habits. I want to get involved. There should be laws. Anyone have any tips?

  1. Select a few bars and places go in and ask the owners if they care to help you. Place glass recycling containers and maybe you can go pick up their stuff for them and take it to  be recycled.

  2. Ask your boss how he feels about the whole "green" concept. Suggest that a local recycle center can pick up bottles, cans, cardboard, etc, by curbside. I'm so glad that you care for the environment and good luck! :)

  3. I think it is easier to lead by example. Take the initiative to help your favorite restaurant or bar set up a system at there location. If they can see a benifit, the word will spread. Most businesses pay by weight to have their garbage removed. If you can pull recyclable from the waste stream the garbage bill should go down. If you are able to find a recycler that will come pick up the recyclable materials the business should be willing to do it. If you can somehow find someone who will pick up and pay I can't see how they would say no.

The other area to get involved is your solid waste management department. Help them find solutions to make it easier and profitable for business to do the right thing.

  4. In the future recycling programs in the USA and the world will be mandatory. It will help save our Mother Earth.
