Question:

Where do I buy the slots where my furnace filters go?

I have this furnace that came with my house. It had a large filter in place when I moved in, but when I went to replace it, I could not find a filter to fit. The size measures about 24 X 15.5 X 4. a friend said there should be metal slots there where 1" fliter can be placed. Is that something I can buy, or do I have to spend the extra money and have a custom filter made?

  1. Check here:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i...

    You can find it.

    Good luck!

  2. Just slide a standard width filter into the present slot and don't worry about it.  Cut it down and tape the edges if you need to.  The extra gap won't hurt anything.

  3. I have never seen a 4" thick filter for a home. Even commercial filters are usually 2" thick at most.

  4. go to your local hardware store and buy a 3ft.peice of z flashing, cut it into 3 equal lentghs

get  a pak of self tapping screws, place 1 peice of the z flashing on each side of the opening, make it the size of the filter you want to use.attach them with the screws then set your filter in and there you have it,done&done,if you can't find the z flashing ,you can use anything thin sheet metal strips, alum.look around the hardware store you can even use 21/2 L brackets just take one end and bend it up enough to hold the filter.

  5. Contact a local heating contractor, this is a very common filter used in residential equipment and they should have them or access to them.

I carry one in my van at work since we use a lot of them.
