She's actually excited about turning the big 4-0 and I want to provide a party in a restaurant with some type of Latin cuisine, where there is live music, but not mariachi, and can accommodate 30 people for on or about $1000 (not impossible given that most of the potential attendees don't drink alcohol). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The party buffet menu may fit your price range.

I'm not sure if there are any good latin restaurants with good music for less, since typically the show charge for those not eating but sitting at the table is $15. At El Torito (a decent mexican food chain restaurant), the banquets (parties) run about $20 per person, and sometimes there is mariachi music. (And not the really good kind, at least not when I've been there.)

    Good luck!

  3. Mr. Chow!

  4. Spazio Restaurant in Sherman Oaks
