Including books, tests, parent lesson plans, maunals, readers etc.. for ALL subjects for the school year. I prefer to not have to buy books from different companies. Does ABEKA have a full kit like this??

  1. I was homeschooled all the way through high school, I definetly recomend purchasing different companies, as Abeka is usually best for math, while BJU is great for science, and power glide is fantastic for foreign languages. there are multiples sites out there to help you choose whats best, but thst just my two cents.

  2. Several curriculum companies offer something like this - A Beka, BJU Press, and Sonlight, just to name a few.

What I found worked for my son, though it's more work on my part, is to pull together resources from different companies.  His math is from Math U See, science is from Apologia, reading and lit analysis from the library, language arts from Shurley, and history from a notebooking set and the library.  We also lapbook quite a bit.

Starting out, it's often easier to go with a full curriculum; it gives you a great idea of how to "do" homeschooling.  However, if something about the pack isn't working - the math is too easy, the readers aren't what interests your child, they want more science, whatever - don't be scared to branch out a bit.  :-)

  3. Absolutely. Go to their website and read all about it: abekaacademy.org   or you can find other people who offer complete curriculum also.  I tried the piece-meal method, its hard to keep track of and everything doesn't enhance the other subjects when you have a package deal.  Do what works best for you guys!

  4. yes ABEKA works GREAT. Im a homesvchooled child and I've done ABEKA. It's amazing. but I'm doing another program that is on the computer instead. If you want to look it up.. It's  called Switched On Schoolhouse. It's really good. And ABEKA is also what you're looking for. It comes with all the books and DVD's and teacher manuals and everything. And it's simple. :) And this is coming from a 13 year old homeschooled child. I think I stand for what I say. My dad wants me in publuic school and I refuse. I got attached. :) It's amazing. <3

  5. www.sonlight.com

Sonlight gives you everything you need including 2 different lesson plans. One is for a three day week and the other is for a 5 day week. They give you all the books for the lesson plans, worksheets every thing you need. All you have to do is add a math and science and you will have it ready to go as soon as you're ready to start. You are very involved in reading to them and really teaching them so be prepared and have a drink nearby. I lost my voice last year for about a week from constantly reading out loud.

The down side to the curriculum is that it cost about a $1000.00 but you use it for 2 years and if you're prepared properly you can use over and over for other kids.

  6. there is a place called american school in lansing illinois and they give you books and tests through the mail for a good price, they even have some college courses, i suggest you check it out, i think the site is www.americanschool.org? you can type it in google and it will correct you. hope that gives you an idea

  7. ABEKA is good but you should know that the DVD are loners and must be returned and yes they do have a 2 kits one for student and one for teacher

other than ABEKA I would suggest the 2 others that I and the church school my children started school in used, they are both at a higher slandered than mainstream school both have ways to by a whole year with answer keys and ways to get it all separate if you want

this is what I use now as it is the better for us, however it is computer based and runs wonderful over a network, both my sons have a computer for schoolwork and I use a laptop for the teacher application to set up, check up on the work and grading

    Switched On Schoolhouse

(I buy it form eBay from a seller brand new for less than they have it with no problems)

    A.C.E. School of Tomorrow

all offer on-line homeschooling but it is not required to buy the curriculum from them

  8. K12 has everything.  You didn't mention which grade this is for and if you're the parent or the student.

You can purchase K12 on your own and not go through a virtual public charter school.  It's called "Consumer Direct" on their site:
