Question:

Where do I find a horse in Queensland?

I am currently looking for a horse in Queensland. I live in Brisbane so North Queensland isn't really going to be helpful. As close to home as possible. I have looked on Horse Deals but they don't really have anything that appeals. I still have a few months before I buy but I would like to look so I know what's out there.

I don't want any Arabs or Thoroughbreds because even though I have been riding for some years now I am not very experienced. I have heaps of people where I'll be agisting to help and I also have two sisters with horses so I am fine on the ground and I'm okay on top but I can't really sit big bucks or rear so I want a fairly calm horse. Sorry if that's too demanding.

I want to look primarily off the web but I can only find American sites. Please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. The web is a good place to look, but don't rule out newspapers. You'll be able to find more horses in your area. Also, ask around at saddleries or feed stores - they usually have ads up.

Look out for Stock Horses (brilliant horses, very versatile but sweet tempered) or crossbreds. The draft breed crosses tend to be more gentle.

    Good Luck!

  2. Have a look at Pet Link, Trading Post, Horseyard and Simple Trade, i live in the same soughta area and am looking too.

Also look in your local saddlery for advertisments and classifieds in newspapers ect.

p.s. Not all arabs and thoroughbreds need experienced riders - i just sold my beginners bombproof thoroughbred & my friend just sold her intermediate, quiet arabian

    Goodluck

im currently seeking my horse as well :)

  4. Here are some websites to buy a horse from. I think most of them aren't only US sites. You could ask your instructor if she knows of anyone with a horse for sale/lease. Try putting up a flyer at local tack shops and barns. Good luck!
