Question:

Where do I find support with this adoption issue...?

I just found out that I was adopted. I'm a middle-aged guy so this has been a huge shock to discover that the father you've known and loved all your life isn't really your biological father. My mother is mine fortunately. I found my birth father and the info I found after that has really got me going. It would help if I could talk with other adults in a similar situation. Anyone know of any good online groups?

Thanks...

  1. http://www.adultadoptees.org/

A good friend of mine referred my daughter to this forum.  She said it's a great place for adoptees to find support and to find people who really know what it feels like to be adopted.

By the way, it really stinks that you had to find out so late.  I can't even begin to imagine what all is going through your mind right now.

  2. I'm so so sorry that you had to find out - and were never told your truth.

    Gersh's tips are THE BEST.

Great places - with people that really do understand.

Hope to see you there sometime.

    Take care.

  3. Hey! I do know of two. I'm an adoptee too, but both of my parents surrendered their rights to me.

    http://www.adultadoptees.org <<< excellent!

    http://www.latediscovery.org <<<< excellent!

They're both run by friends of mine. The second is specifically for late discovery adoptees, although the owner of the second participates at the first as well. :) Come on over, we understand!

  4. oh wow....what a shock:(

you might give us a shot at adultadoptees.org.  we're a nice and very supportive group.

    hope to see you there!

  5. I agree with Gershom.  Good places to be, lots of support.

I can't imagine the shock of finding this out late in life.  I have always known I was adopted, and I still have a hard time making all of it make sense all the time.
