  1. Go to http://www.amtrak.com

There are small rooms for 1 or 2 and larger ones for 2 or 3. It is basically an additional fair added to coach and includes all your meals. It can be pretty expensive. It is about $1000 round trip from San Francisco (Emeryville) to Chicago for a single roomette. The additional cost is per room so it is much more economical with 2 or 3 to a room.

  2. Yes, Amtrak.com is your best bet. I've been traveling by Amtrak for about 10 years. I've always bought the sleeper car, (except for my first trip, when I didn't realize you couldn't actually sleep in coach). The roomette is a bunkbed in a very small room. Basically its meant just for sleeping with little room for anything else. All meals are included. I've never booked the larger rooms- always been happy with the roomette. Although it may seem expensive, its no more than you'd pay for a hotel stay. I feel its well worth it.

  3. Amtrak website...they have many long distance express trains with sleeper cabins...I always wanted to do that until I looked at the price..then said I'm flying...it seems like it'd be fun though...good luck.

  4. call 1-800-usa-rail tell them you would a sleeper.
