Where do I get my name changed legally?

Should I file the paperwork with my local City Court system, or should I go to the Parish Civil District Court? (That’s a county for you Yankees.) I’m pretty sure I don’t need to go as high up as the Judicial District Court system. Or, alternatively, should I file my petition in the county where I was born, in another state?

  1. Just because a person does not know about Louisiana's French legal system history does not mean they are not Southern rednecks.

Louisiana's official web site does not seem to want people to find particular laws, so you will have to check with a LA lawyer or clerk of court.

The unofficial site below may help.

  2. I think its the county court and i think you have to do it where ever you are an official resident... like where ever your state ID is from.
