Question:

Where do I get one????

Where can I get a reusable bag that's not plain and donates to some sort of charity/fund?

I ALREADY KNOW that publix and such carry these bags and are inexpensive, but I want one that also gives back the money!

I found one here (http://amazon.com/feed) but it looks like only $20 of the $60 goes towards this foundation-is that right? Shouldn't all the money goes towards it? And it's made in China, so that probably means it was made under unfair child labor??

Thanks

  1. Use spare fabric and make your own bag.  You can do this for free essentially with spare fabric remnants.  Donate the money directly to a cause.

  2. These bags are a hot item right now for environmental causes.  I've got one from the National Resources Defense Council.  Check with groups like NRDC, the Sierra Club, and especially with local environmental groups, who often sell these for fundraising.

As for finding items not made in China, good luck.  My NRDC bag was made in the USA, luckily, but I can't promise that this will be true for every charity.  It is nearly impossible to buy things that are not made in China without going to a specialty store.  The wage prices affect this a lot.  When you pay somebody 6 cents an hour to make your frying pans, you can sell them for a heck of a lot cheaper than your competitor who pays their employees $12.00 an hour.  When these prices hit the consumer, most will go with the cheaper price; it's that simple.  Unless people are willing to start paying more for their things and buying less stuff all around, we will continue to buy cheap items from China, made under dangerous conditions by a labor force which is tantamount to slavery.

  3. Sponsor Public Access Television (PBS) at most stations a donation will give you a reusable bag and all the proceeds go to keeping the station running. Public Television is still a great source of Free education (Sesame Street to Nova) and also a great resource for distribution of quality programing without commercial interruption. Good Luck!
