Question:

Where do I get the best training tips for my Golden Retriever?

I have a 1 year and 8 month old Golden Retriever. Her first 1.5 years, she was raised in my in-laws home with us there, but unfortunately, no one in the family, my in-laws, all her kids and grandkids(which totals up to 40 people) were over all the time, and did not at all respect my training wants, therefore, my dog never received the consistency she needed for proper training, she was always allowed to eat human food because they left it everywhere,

In result, she's very self rewarding, self willed, lots of trouble and a great deal for me to handle.

Now we're in our new place, I need to break these bad habits, and properly train her.

Any tips? Websites to look at? Books to buy?

That would be great!

I'd like to know where I can start and so forth.

  1. Start watching "The dog Whisperer" on National Geographic. Ceaser Millan really knows what he's talking about when it comes to dog behavior and psychology.

  2. I would suggest taking him to a good well respected dog obedience class. There are also some good books available on golden retrievers.

  3. The best thing I can recommend is a nice fun training class. Beginning obedience would be a great start. You'll learn such things like:

How dogs learn and how they "think".

You'll learn basics like loose leash walking, sit, lay, wait at doorways, stay, settle, and other things that will help you daily.

You will also form a nice strong bond, and learn how you interact with your dog.

It's a great foundation that will allow you to continue to learn and grow.
