  1. it all depends on where you live. If you live in the U.S. you will need to go to fafsa.edu. its the free application for student aid website. You'll fill out the fafsa, it'll get processed by your school and state guarantor, and you'll receive notification about any grants you're eligible for from the federal government and your state. after that, for more free funding you'll need to search for scholarships. A great place, no matter what you're state is would be PHEAA.org. from there you'll click the link for  scholarships. they have a questionnaire that lets you find exactly what scholarships apply to you. youcandealwithit.com also gives you info about money management and more info about applying for student aid and other things like that. If you do have to apply for a loan, try to avoid private loans because they are the worst. The deadline for grants for the fall has already passed for most states, but it is listed on the fafsa website. hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. I use to work for a student loan company, and am willing to give you advice you would need about financial aid.

  2. It's called a loan.  Nothing is free.

  3. Have you try to get a scholarship? If you get a scholarship than you don't need to pay it back. Maybe you can go to

    http://all-about-scholarship.com

    it's about scholarships/grants information.

    Good luck

  4. The first step is filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, which you can submit online(www.fafsa.ed.gov), find at schools' financial-aid offices, or have mailed to you by calling the U.S. Department of Education at (800) 433-3243.

It's smart to file as soon as possible because many colleges' aid deadlines are in early to mid-February, and their reserves of grant money may have dwindled substantially by the time they actually stop accepting applications.

The FAFSA requires copies of your previous year's tax return. If you don't have that ready, you can include a return with estimated numbers and update them when you get better numbers.

Students and their families are expected to contribute to the cost of college to the extent that they're able. Use this Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Calculator to:

Estimate how much your family will be expected to contribute. After all, you can't make a realistic plan to cover your share if you don't have an idea what your share could be.

Gain insight into your financial aid eligibility. If you're unable to contribute the entire cost of college, financial aid is available to bridge the gap. That's how the financial aid system works. The difference between the total cost and your EFC is considered your "financial need" and the amount of aid you're eligible to receive.

http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/ is a good site for you start the process. Than look into different scholorships at your school of choice and your local community. Online scholorship search you can visit www.fastweb.com and www.salliemae.com. The process of is going to take some time, work, and effort to get yourself the free money your looking for in which its really pays.

    Good luck

  5. I assume you're an American or at least a legal resident of the country. Hopefully you are because my advice won't mean anything if you live in another country.

Apply for government grants and scholarships

There are many institutions in te country that provide student aid for higher education.

You may want to try sending an application for FAFSA or, depending on where you live, a Pell Grant. FAFSA applications can be done online.

But there are many more student aid programs available out there so it would be good to research on them. these sites may help you:
