I am currently training for the 2012 Olympics and am interested in either running the 100 M or 200 m sprint...where do I try out?

(What is the age limit and do you have to be on a track team to try out?)

  1. Yeh it's definitely not a case of watching the Beijing Olympics, being inspired, and then just rocking up to the Olympic trials next time around and suddenly making the team.

You have to start at the bottom. Join an athletics club because you love the sport, have heaps of fun, enjoy challenging yourself and competing against others at your level. If you really have the talent you'll gradually rise up the ranks. Maybe, just maybe, you will one day be in the position where making the team for Olympic Games or World Championships is a realistic goal. Then you have to love the sport so much that you're willing to live athletics and train day in day out for the next your years and beyond, be so driven that you are willing to sacrifice other aspects of your life to achieve your dream.

Chances are you wont ever compete in the Olympic Games. If you have any chance of making it to the top then you wont care about that right now. You should be able to find other rewards, like the feeling of the track flying past underneath your feet, running faster then you've ever run before, and crossing the line in front of everyone else, even if it isn't the Olympic final.

  2. You should join a local club and if you do well you will win races and get noticed, get coached and get better. Then you will prgoress to regional meets, then national and if really good will get to compete in your national track events which decide the competitors for the Olympics. You don't just apply to enter the Olympics, each sport has its governing body which controls contests  and meets and if you are good you will get noticed and get better.

  3. you need to join the local club and then do good in races and regional competitions and there are plenty of trainers there because my friend got scouted but turned down the option because she doesnt want to just focus on running.

you have to be commited to running because if you go to school your school work will be ruined and you wont have a social life.
