Question:

Where do I look (search) from here?

I realize there are tons of questions on searching, and I've tried most of the links, etc. to see if my brother is registered anywhere, with no luck.

I would like to find my brother, who my mother relinquished 41 years ago. I know his birth first name, the first name his APs gave him, where he was born (Minnesota) and where the adoption took place (NY - Long Island) - along with my mother's name, obviously, and the date of birth. There is a family member - cousin of my mother's - who knew the APs - but she has declined my request for their last name. So frustrating! It would be as easy as one spoken word from her to know his name! She said she feels it's not her place.

Is my only option to hire someone?

  1. I know you said you've tried most of the links.  Have you registered you mom's information on places like

    http://www.isrr.net

    http://registry.adoption.com/

New York is locked up tight (as a couple of other regulars here can attest to).  You have a lot to go on, but beyond registering at the above places, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

There are links to free search angels here:

    http://www.adoptioncrossroads.org/

They may have other ideas (as I'm relatively green here).

It's too bad that your mom's cousin isn't more forthcoming.

Males tend to wait until later to search.  That might be why you haven't found him on the registries.  But if you put your mom's info in (and keep your contact info updated), he might show up at some point.

Ahhh...  I wish I could think of the next step...  I hope others chime in.

Good luck to you.  I hope you find him.
