Normally, if I was quoting a magazine article, I would cite it like this, with the comma BEFORE the closing quote mark:

"Article Title," Magazine Name, etc.

But, would if the article title has an exclamation point in it? Which is correct?

A) "Article Title!", Magazine Name, etc.

B) "Article Title!," Magazine Name, etc.

C) "Article Title!" Magazine Name, etc.

Please help me! Neither one of these 3 look right.

  1. A its right cause you write the title between  "..." and then if you have something more to say you put the comma... so its:

    "article title!",...

  2. B would follow your usual style, as the ! loses its function as a punctuation mark and becomes part of the noun - the article title.

  3. "Article Title!", Magazine Name, etc.

    this one is right

  4. I agree that this is confusing.  My thoughts are:

1- leave out the exclamation point and cite it as normal.

    or, if not

2-C). (I just went to EasyBib.com, and it made the citation this way)

And no, you cannot have 2 punctuation marks.  That just looks dumb.

  5. Go to ctiationmachine.net.  You enter the title, and it will properly cite it for you.  I am a high school English teacher and I love this site!

  6. I think it's B.  The quotation mark goes after the comma.

  7. That's when I use  paraphrasis (  )  I would put the comma after the word Title. After means it is defined and now time to put in Mag. Name.
