  1. You can't!  In London, there are many ways for a business to advertise etc.  We have the "Yellow Pages" and "Thomson Directory" as the main two.  Most of the listed businesses advertise with "Yellow Pages".  You can search the "Yellow Pages" at www.yell.co.uk  However, to obtain the directories, you can get both the Thomson Directory and the Yellow Pages for your local area, for free each year but if you want any other areas, you have to pay for them.  Many businesses will not be in either of the directories.  Many businesses are registered at Companies House, as Limited Companies and don't advertise.  Some Local Authorities (Councils) have their own local "free" Business Directories but sadly, most don't.  If you want the best collection available you'll have to buy the disks from www.192.com  It will cost over £300 but covers the whole of the UK.  BT also sell their directories, on disk but they are more expensive and only hold the BT database.  192's disks hold the databases of all known directories including Companies House records and in addition you can purchase the Electoral Register for the whole of the UK.  Finally, these databases are meant only for business / personal use of which no illegal activity takes place.  To use such directories to make "unsolicited" calls is illegal in the UK.  That's why the Hutchinson Group use Indian call centres to bombard us with junk calls for "3 Mobile", which is owned by Hutchinson.  If they made the junk calls from the UK they would be prosecuted and could have their Network License revoked, so they use Indian call centres to p*ss people off.
