Question:

Where do I start to get funding for a Homeless Shelter?

I live in a small mountain town in California. We have several homeless people that walk our streets, yet we have no homeless shelters or services to offer to them. In the winter the temp. get very cold and in the summer very hot and these people are left out in extreme temperatures. My heart goes out to these people because this town is unable to offer them anything. I want to be able to at least get some kind of funding or backing to help be able to offer the homeless people in our area some kind of relief, even if it is providing them with just food and warm clothing and even some sort of warm bedding to sleep in if I can't get funding for an actual shelter. Where do I start, who would I contact?

  1. Church groups, community services, and your elected officials are the ones to contact. Start a letter writing campaign to the local papers. Ask your Salvation Army, goodwill, or St. Vincent De Paul organizations what they are doing. Very commendable, I thank you for the thought and effort yet to come.
