Where do I stay in France for a romantic break?

I am going to take my girlfriend away at the start of September and I dont know france well at all. I want to get good weather and a gite with a pool would be ideal close to nice scenery and local villages for eating out options in the evening. I dont need to be near the cost necessarily. Looking to spend no more than £400 in total for the accommodation for the week. Any ideas anyone. Many thanks, Nick

Fly to Carcasonne, Carcasonne is a beautiful city with the large medieval castle. Ryannair fly into it at very cheap prices. Then you're not that far away from Narbonne on the Med or even an hour away to Toulouse.

Provence! You're likely to have good weather and actually be able to use the pool.

I HIGHLY recommend the gite "Les Burlats" about 45 minutes from Avignon. It's in a small , charming town. Rousillon is not far for evening dining, but there is a kitchen at the gite that you can use. Breakfast is great-lots of bread, croissants, pain au chocolat with fresh cherries that grow all over the property. The pool is even surrounded by cherry trees and the owner says to help yourself! Ummm Paris?  Kinda one of the most romantic places in the world!

You will love any place you wind up in, I'm sure...everything in France is romantic if you're with the one you love.

however, 400/week, might be a bit low.  You might be able to find an apartment with a discount that would bring it to about that number, but I think a country Inn would be more romantic...and a bit pricier.  Try searching a region..

I like that Carcassonne idea, Perpignan, Avignon, if you think about places in the South.  Giverny, Rennes, Epernay, and Riems might be nice in the North.

Okay, I've just given you the itinerary of my next dream vacation...:)
