  4. the baptist base their belief firmly on the greek translation of the bible the original translation in the new testament the word baptizo is used in describing the word baptism...baptizo means to be fully submersed hence why they believe in submersion baptism and not sprinkling just one example...

  5. The short answer that has already been give – “the Bible”.

If you mean there belief in Baptism being Total immersion and that christening is of no avail.

Start with the Baptism of Jesus

    Matthew 3:13-17

13  Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14  But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16  And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Verse 16 illustrates that Jesus was totally immersed and not sprinkled.

That baptism is total immersion is confirmed by the Apostle Paul when he wrote to the Romans

    Romans 6:3-6

3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

There is no evidence in the Bible that sprinkling is acceptable because belief is a prerequisite of baptism.

    Mark 16:16

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Infant Christening is another erroneous act introduced by the established Churches.

    Additional Note

I forgot a point - How did John the Baptised wash away sins?

By burying the person in water.

  6. I would say that Baptists base their beliefs in dispensationalism and much more of a separation of the New Testament from the Old Testament in terms of a covenant.  For them, the old covenant was absolutely obliterated with all the law being absorbed into the death of Jesus.  Baptism would then take on the meaning of having only the loosest connection with circumcision.  In other words there is no longer a sign and seal of grace, and baptism simply becomes man's outward symbol of his own faith.

  7. On the Bible I presume. Catholics to my knowledge base their view both on the Bible and on tradition (Catholic Church).

  8. Ignorance is how it looks to me .
