Where do clothes/shoe stores get their merchandise from?

Im thinking about opening my own clothes/shoe store something like footlocker, athletes foot, macy's, and i was wondering where do they get their merchandise from (clothes, shoes, ect.)

  1. big stores have their own factory. others just buy from small shoe manufacturer from other countries and place their names on it.
