Question:

Where do confiscated arms go in NSW( if they are not melted down or "disposed of")?

My rifle was taken away by the police in September 2006 because my license was out of date. The court ruled that I would get it back as soon as I renewed my license. I ring the station today and they tell me the gun has been melted down. Is this true or is there a way I can buy it back or something?

  1. Hello Rocco. I am presuming here that you were given a time period to renew your license by the court for the return of your rifle. If you were within your specified time period and the police station claimed they melted your weapon down anyway, I would immediately file charges for full value of the weapon against the department. From what you are saying here, they violated the law by prematurely melting it down.

To answer your question though, if the weapon was not actually destroyed, it would have been traded in to the police supply dealer for a voucher against new equipment.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you
