  1. Nicknames usually creates from your Family member they got that from the personality of a person or physical appearances.

  2. Filipino nicknames , I find weird. You can have a nickname that is totally different from your name. As a child, family members usually comes up with some sort of pet names, sometimes repetitious, often funny to denotes the personality of the child, perhaps to make it easy to remember. Nicknames also tends to change as the child grows up, and its up to her/him to adopt the name or make a new nickname for themselves that can clearly identify w/ their personality, ones that they like best to be associated with or fond of.

  3. ...usually decided by family members. but it's not uncommon for us to have several nicknames coz once we attend school, another nickname is added and then again when we join the work force.  most filipinos have at least two nicknames - one by which he is known to family and relatives and another by which his friends call him.

  4. Filipino babies are already given nicknames based on the ff:

    1. characteristics of the baby -e.g he keeps on farting, they'll call him pot-pot

    2. the baby used to be like or look like someone else, they'll start calling him/her with the name of that someone else - e.g. an actor called "chitae"..hmmm..i wonder where they got your mom's name, hehe just kidding..
