Question:

Where do fruit flys come from?

They seem to magically appear in a tidy kitchen, as soon as fruit over ripens. Are there fruit fly eggs in the fruit already?!

  1. Well, I feel nauseas now!  We have a problem periodically with them.  I am not sure where they come from, but I know how to get rid of them.  Leave a few plastic cups of water on your counter over night.  In the morning there will be a lot of floating flies!

If you are a Jane or are vegan to the extreme that you will not kill insects, you can place a sliced-up apple in a long bread bag.  Then prop the one side open a little.  The flies will go for the fruit.  Then when there are a ton of them in there, you just shut the bag and dump the apples and the flies outside in an out of way place.  You are not only giving them a new home, you are giving them enough food to last like 100 generations!!!

  2. The eggs come in on the food and they are usually tiny enough to get in through the screen.  Once you have them they often breed in the sink trap or any other moist place in the kitchen.  It doesn't take much.

  3. they come fro things that r going bad......... also bananas too

  4. Yes; most likely. I'm not certain but in some cases the fruit flies actually aid the ripening of some fruits. I've seen them emerge from figs.

  5. hmmm. i hope not. i never actually thought about it before....

  6. When a boy and girl fruit fly meet they mate and soon the girl fly starts laying eggs. She looks for yummy stuff to lay them on like fruit growing in the field or grocery store. The eggs are very tiny and can easily be carried into the house. This is why I wash my fruit as soon as I get it home.
