I live on a farm now and there are gnats who go through our screens and are always above any light source. They are in a group of hundreds if not more. When I turn off the light where do they go?

  1. Them and all their gnat buddies go to the hottest hang out spot, sip iced tea and eat scones. I would know i was one!!!

  2. Most bugs see in Infrared as well as visible light.  However, when you turn on the light, they are attracted to it by "reflex" much the same way you jump when you hear a sudden loud noise.  When the light goes off, the gnats go back to seeing in the Infrared and just fly around or rest somewhere.

  3. They'll head towards ANY light source they can find... And if there ISN'T one, they'll just bed down for the night where they ARE- & wait for Daylight...(And YOU, to get up & bug again!).

  4. Where ever they want.

  5. They 'navigate by moonlight.

    They're confused by the porchlight.

Turn it off, and they're back on course.
