  1. Hurricanes develop over warm water of the Atlantic or eastern Pacific off Mexico and move over warm waters towards the west or north striking coastal areas of the southern and Eastern US and Mexico. They occur during the warm months and many originate from air waves moving out from Africa to the west. The evaporation form the warm water feeds the hurricanes which die out when they move far enough north over cool water or over land. Read this article for technical details.

  2. hurricanes form over the oceans north and south of the equator. hurricanes develop from disturbances in the the equatorial belt. some of these disturbances begin in an unusual way and cause tropical cyclones, which are notorious for their violence. these take place during the hottest season, always at latidudes above 5 degrees and near to contintal land. they are called hurricanes in the southern Pacific and and northern Atlantic, typhoons in the western Pacific, cyclones in the Indian Ocean, and willy-willies in the Sunda  Sea.

  3. Near and over coastal areas, because once they move inland they dissipate rapidly due to their reliance on stored energy in warm ocean waters, which dry land does not provide.
