  1. local listing papers, net CL,ebay....beware....try rebuilt...tip.lots of people use car engines in boats....

  2. I would look on craigslist or eBay. Looking on CL you have a chance of getting one locally and check it out.  If you do eBay, look for a seller that has PayPal which will give you buyers protection. Then ask the seller specific questions about product and save all communications. If he sells you a junker and said it was a good motor report it to PayPal and they will freeze sellers money account until problem is resolved.

  3. If your hull is a good one and you plan on keeping the boat, go for a new engine.  Go to the Boat Shows this time of year and you will get a good deal on a new engine.  You can save thousands at the Boat Show.  If you install it yourself, you can save even more.  It is difficult to trust someone on a used engine from a boat.  Maintenance is too expensive and parts cost too much to try an find out if an engine is good or not.  You decide if you boat is worth investing in, if not buy another boat with a running engine.  Whatever you decide, do not use a "car engine" in a boat.  "Very dangerous", it could blow the boat up with the sparks that a car engine emits.  Good Luck

  4. I got a bad motor on ebay, so I wouldn't go that route.  I guess it is easier to rip people off when you are not face-to-face.  Sometimes mechanics get ahold of used engines cheap.  Some are take-outs where the motor is fine and they just want more power.  Others are from insurance write-offs, etc.

If you know what you want, just go down and ask around local boatyards, and with a little patience and discretion, you will find a good deal.

  5. I believe Jasper re-built motors has a marine division and they come with a warranty

  6. unless you know what your looking for and are knowledgeable about boat motors then you had best buy it from a dealer or take someone who knows a boat motor! I have had problems with E-BAY and I dont recommend it!

  7. Look on ebay.

  8. Your local boat shops, check the yellar pages. If ya  have a outboard motor shipped, pull the float bowl(s)off the carb & inspect as the the float may get stuck while she's laid down.=^ )
