  1. contact your local tax office they will help

  2. you should have got your P45 when you left, you also should have got your P60 in may or june which has your details of your earnings for last tax year, get in  touch with your tax office, they will know as long as you know your nat insurance number

  3. If you cannot get the info from your employer, your HMRC office may hold detials of your pay and tax. If your employer has provided the information to HMRC, then your tax office will hold the details to be used for any claims, etc.

If you need it for something else, your HMRC office can send you a letter with these details on.

  4. If your employment ceased since 6th April, you will need form P45 for this tax year. When you say employer "out of business", did he go bankrupt? If so, the Official Receiver will supply form P45, and possibly form P60 for last year.

By all means contact tax office to see what information held, but in circumstances like this, HMRC may not have received details, or know where your employer is. Even if 2007/2008 employer's return has been received, details may not have got through computer system to your record yet. Do you have payslips so that HMRC can reconstruct your earnings if details not received from employer?

I think tax office is the best place to get help, but don't be surprised if staff can't give you the information you want. They aren't mindreaders. If any information held, they can give you signed letter on headed notepaper, and this is equal to form P60/P45.

They will do their best to obtain details, but it may take some time.

  5. your tax office
