Try going to Burwood Westfield. Italian girls love dressing up and they have some great shops full of formal dresses. The other place is DFO at Homebush  - but be quick or you will miss out on the sizes. I also believe that Parramata westfield will have loads of clothing shops.

um do you want to eat the formal dresses? lol this is the food section haha. but i would go to a bridalwear shop or maybe raid mums closet and see what cool vintage pieces shes got from the 80s =] also, if you are short on cash, try birkenhead point, which has a whole load of discount stores. or you could rent a dress from a formalwear rentals place, theres one at miranda..

Bridalwear shops are a great option- They usually stock bridesmaid dresses and cocktail dresses which look great and are perfect for formals.

If you don't have a big budget, try looking at formal wear ex- rentals, sometimes you can find a bargain

Personally I think that bridal wear shops often have really outdated stuff. I would try shops like Scanlon and Theodore, Allannah Hill, of course it depends what your style is. But in my experience (my partner is a high school teacher and I pick him up from the formal every year) girls tend to wear more cocktail style dresses than traditional formal dresses these days. You could even try Myer in the city, they have loads of dresses ranging from cocktail to more formal. I think it's the floor above the miss shop floor - the one with all the new designer wear.
