  1. Spain is a country of very hospitable people...

On the Costa del Sol most people will speak some english, and many are quite fluent... If you say "por favor" (please) and "Gracias" (thanks) they will usually give you a smile and the info or help you need.

In mid-august you have the annual fair in Malaga which is a festival of dancing, singing and merrymaking that lasts  9 days this year from the 12 to the 20th. During those days the city literally closes down, and almost everyone is in on the merrymaking. The "Feria de Dia" (day-fair) is in the center of town...and lasts most of the morning...from around 11 a.m. til' lunch time (here about 3 p.m.). The Night fair is held at the fairgrounds on the outskirts of the city...and lasts from around 10 p.m. until near dawn. there are attractions, musical shows, etc..

    .

There are shopping malls all along the coast... The neatest ones are LA CAÑADA in Marbella, MYRAMAR CENTER in Fuengirola and LARIOS CENTER in Malaga itself... Then on the eastern side of Malaga there is EL INGENIO near Velez-Malaga. (It all depends on where you are staying)

Along the coast you have many interesting things...

In Marbella You have the Puerto BANUS (yacht harbour) The yachts there are quite impressive and worth seeing ...(that is where the "jetset" hang out...Don't eat there...the prices are outrageous!) The sunset over the sea there is magnificent. Great for taking pictures. And on a good day you can see Gibraltar and the coast of north Africa!

The Benalmadena Yacht Harbour is smaller and more modest, but also nice to visit... There is a boat ride down the coast offered there.

Then you have SELWO, the one in Benalmádena is with dolphins and other sea mammals, and a parrot show.

The one in Estepona is a true Safari Park...Worth a visit, the kids would really enjoy it. Your hotel should be able to get you discount tickets to both.

In Malaga take a drive up to GIBRALFARO castle...on the hill overlooking the city, you have magnificent views of everything from the bullring to the sea! And take a walk or do some sunbathing on the beach (the one east of the lighthouse is really nice).

Eat some "Tapas" at the cafés in the pedestrian street area

    (center of town)

In Madrid, besides the wonderful museums (most in the center of town), you have the Palacio Real, The Almudena Cathedral, and The Teatro Real. all 3 on the Plaza de Oriente.

Then  you have El Retiro Park  with the monument to Alfonso XII(3 blocks behind the Prado Museum). The Cibeles Fountain  next to the Post Office building.

If you have children with you the Zoo is great to visit, as would be Warner Bros. Amusement Park

(If you  could edit your question and tell me the names of the hotels you will be staying in I could give you better directions for both cities...)

  2. Malaga is a small town, so do a tour of it and go to the Mediteranean Beach (it's a very nice place). If you stay more days in Malaga try to see a Flamengo performance (there are many places-ask to the hotel). As for Madrid is a wonderful town, it's difficult to describe in few words, you'll find a map in the hotel and you can see all the beauties of the capital of Spain.
