  1. Find out what place in Ireland your mom is from, and do a google or yahoo search about it.  The nearest big town would be a good place to stay, with more choice of things to do, and your mom might like to spend a couple of days finding her roots or catching up with old friends and neighbours in her home spot.  And then there is the rest of the county or adjoining counties to explore.

Finding somewhere to stay is no problem.  The big towns (and many of the small ones too) have hotels, and there B&Bs in every part of Ireland, or you may prefer to go self-catering and rent a house.  Some ideas are  -

You are wonderful to do this for your mom, and I hope you both have a great time here.

  2. You didn't say where she was from, If she likes the city you should bring her somewhere like Dublin, Grafton street or the city centre but if she is from the country then why not try Donegal or somewhere in the North or West of Ireland.

  3. and B&Bs are good...a true Irish experience :)

  4. My mom was born in Ireland. Bally Shannon..  She has been back 2x now. The 1st was with dad who is now gone. And the 2nd was with my son and his fiance in 2001. They stayed at a castle near Mom's birth place. Bally Shannon is right on the north sea, a seaside resort.. Caution tho, it does rain alot in Ireland, just as in Great Brit. so bring umbrellas and raincoats. Mom says the best time to go is in June. It never really gets above the 70s. They had reservations to stay in a Castle.  The castle was so different and all had a wonderful time!  And we have the video to relive it all.. Bally Shannon is not northern Ireland, where there is still so much termoil.. Go to a Travel Agent if you want to get more info and ideas.. Go with mom and have a wonderful time!  I think you're one special daughter :-)

  5. Either rent a car and drive or take a bus tour around the whole country. You'd do it comfortably in two weeks or less, its a tiny country!

Stay in Dublin only 2 nights, you can see the main sights and sample Dublin life in 2-3 days, dont waste more time there. You have to go see the rest of Ireland! Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway, Sligo and up north or back to Dublin. The scenery in the  south and northwest is incredible, as is Kerry. The people are different and pace of life is much .slower in the country.

Personal favourites would be Achill Island (Co. Mayo), Aran Islands (Co Galway), Go to Galway city-great craic! Do all the Clare coastline incudling Cliffs of Moher, Do the ring of Kerry etc, Spend a couple of days in Cork, Waterford and back to Dublin. Northern Ireland has some amazing stuff too.

www.ireland.ie is a good place to start.

    Enjoy :) You'll feel welcome :)

  6. You should go to the west. Galway, westport and towns around the coast are by far the nicest places. Stear clear of Dublin if you want to see the real Ireland.

Also, contrary to Joanie(no offence), the north of Ireland is pretty much turmoil free now and has been for a couple of years so feel free to check it out, although the south is much nicer anyway. Enjoy your holiday!!

  7. if she likes cities and shopping etc. bring her to dublin, cork, galway, waterford etc and if she prefers the countryside you should go to kerry (south west)

  8. Is she Irish or of Irish decent?  If she’s of Irish decent, why not take her to the place where her ancestors lived?  If she’s Irish, you really should ask her where/if she would like to go.  Almost every expat I know of is always thinking about what he/she is going to do on his/her next visit home.  The rest do not want to go home!!!
